Bus Lanes Allow Smoother Ride
Unless we are drivers ourselves, we may not realise that there are lanes specially allocated for buses in Singapore.  This means drivers and cyclist are not allowed to utilize this lane during restricted hours. Drivers who fail to follow this rule may be fined up to S$1000 or serve a 3 months of imprisonment.

Downtown Line: The First Experience

Posted by: Elgin Chong; Emmanuel Phua
Arriving On Time: Downtown Line trains are quick and smooth, being able to adhere to the stipulated journey time. Photo credit: Elgin Chong
Yes, we were there; Downtown Line 1’s open house! We wanted to experience the new trains and stations to get a feel of how it will be like to take the Downtown Line in future, and here’s our experience.

First things first; you might want to prepare yourself for the cold air-conditioners in the stations and trains because they are really new! The moment we entered the station in Chinatown, we were greeted by a huge crowd as well as an energetic performance by some old folks singing traditional Singaporean folk songs. After snapping some pictures, we immediately headed to the basement to have our first ever experience on a Downtown Line train!

Recently, Team OnTheRightTrack visited Sentosa from different locations. Some of us traveled by bus, some by train. We had some fun at Sentosa and we would like to share them with you through these pictures.

Enjoy!

  • Imbiah Station
  • Beach Station

Earlier yesterday, SBS Transit added a new bus service under the government’s Bus Service Enhancement Program that will make travelling easier from Taman Jurong. The bus loops at Jurong West, however, passengers cannot alight at the terminal. Along the way, the bus will also pass by Lakeside MRT station where commuters will be able to switch to a train to continue their journey outside of the Jurong area.

Train Is Not Always Faster Than The Bus
Who would have thought that taking the bus or train to get to your destination would take almost the same amount of time? Well, based on my experience, this can happen! Recently, I went to Harbourfront from Clementi and tested both means of transportation and guess what? The timing for my journey differed by only two minutes, with the bus being slightly faster!

Foldable Seat in SMRT Buses

Posted by: Norazreen binti Abd Haris
Hidden Seat: The space may be reserved for wheelchair bound passengers, but there is actually a foldable seat that could be used when the space is not occupied. Photo credit: Elgin Chong
Today, there are many different models of buses that are used by SMRT for its bus services. The newer models mostly emphasize on having more standing room. Once in a while, it may get frustrating for us when we are unable to get a seat on a bus ride.

So last Saturday, four of us (Elgin, Emmanuel, Azreen aand Meisi) planned to visit Resorts World Sentosa (RWS). Two of us (Meisi and I) started our journey in Yishun. Our original plan was to take the train to Harbourfront before making our way to Sentosa. Just as we were about to scan tap our ez-links at the gantry, we thought: ‘Why not compare the time difference between the bus and train to Vivo City?’
